In Nepal this elusive cat was discovered by Global Primate Network- Nepal’s field biologist Tashi R. Ghale in Manang in 2012 for the first time. The information on this species very limited, therefore it is very important to understand the existing threats to cat’s survival, identify and recommend effective mitigation measures to reduce these threats for the Pallas’s cat conservation.
This project aims at studying presence/absence, occupancy, habitat association and survival threat of Pallas’s cat in Nepal Himalaya. We are applying the socio-economic analysis and rigorous species presence-absence records and modeling in order to understand the major threat drivers in Nepal Himalayas. The project also aims at educating locals and herders about ecological importance of Pallas’s cat and encourage for its long term conservation.
